As a product of telecommunication industry, fiber optics have dramatically changed the sensing industry over the past decades.
This project focuses on an end-to-end hardware-software platform for harsh environment sensing in industrial applications. These sensors are designed for distributed sensing of critical parameters such as pressure and temperature to create 3D map of data from the harsh physical domain. Pressure and temperature monitoring in environmental remediation industry, failure detection in high performance coatings of pipelines, downhole monitoring for the oil/gas industry, and structural health monitoring are initial target markets.
The project aims to develop a specialty pressure sensor based on fiber optics for level sensing. The pressure sensor will be deployed in a chemically harsh environment to measure subtle pressure changes at high temperatures.
