Canadian Science Policy Conference 2017

On Wednesday, November 1st, Irene Sterian contributed to, "Riding the Wave: Energy and Environment" from 3:00-4:30pm.  On Thursday, November 2nd, Irene Sterian joined the "Technology Convergence" panel from 3:30-5:00pm.From November 1st-3rd in Ottawa, at the 9th Canadian Science Policy Conference,  professionals from industry, academia, and science-based governmental departments met to address current & emerging issues.Wednesday, November 1stIrene Sterian contributed to the, “Riding the Wave: Energy and Environment” discussion to address the nexus between energy, water, health and food, and a transition from a resource-based to a knowledge-driven economy.  In this session, speakers discussed their vision and strategic directions, policy and planning initiatives for disruptive innovations and transformative challenges for Canada. Together, they analyzed trends and ability of Canadian science and technology to harness the power of collaboration in a global leadership role for ‘enabling our future with sustainable energy’ – a golden thread that connects rapid economic growth, increased social equity, and an environment that promotes global development and prosperity

We were inspired by Keynote, Neil Turok, Director, Perimeter Institute[/caption]Thursday, November 2ndIrene Sterian joined the “Technology Convergence” discussion panel from 3:30-5:00 pm. Convergences in areas like Artificial Intelligence, genomics, and quantum computing can unlock solutions to some of our biggest challenges, from improving services in remote communities to predicting and even curing diseases. This panel brought together great minds to discuss their experiences, ideas and emerging best practices from around the world.

Dr. Mona Nemer, Canada’s Chief Science Advisor and Mehrdad Hariri, CSPC, President & CEO answered questions from the audience.
