ReMAP AGM 2016 Highlights
As you have probably heard, the ReMAP AGM held on June 29th was a huge success. Hosted by Ryerson University, ReMAP welcomed over 140 guests at the historic Mattamy Athletic Centre for a lively evening of food, fun and networking.
This year’s AGM was a great opportunity to celebrate our achievements in 2015-16.
Throughout the night, our partners took the opportunity to showcase all of the ReMAP products currently in development.

ReMAP kicked off the 2016 Call for Proposals at our AGM. Open to the entire Canadian manufacturing community, the aim of the call for new projects is to support innovative research that will enhance Canada’s competitive advantage, create new highly-skilled jobs, and develop export-ready products that will yield long-term economic benefit over the next three years.Have a great idea? The road to the global market can be challenging and risky. ReMAP aims to bridge the commercialization gap between applied science and industry through a business-led product develop-ment framework.Moderated by Board Chair Brad Jackson, ReMAP invited five Canadian entrepreneurs to speak at our AGM. These panelists shared their experiences regarding commercialization risks and challenges, and developed in Canada to the global market.
Canada has highly qualified, skilled labour; it’s not about trying to reach out and prevent the outsourcing of mass manufacturing, but it’s more so focusing on cost-competitive high-quality products.
Congratulations to this year’s winner, ReMAP O8 (Indium Phosphide High Speed Modulator), announced at our AGM on June 29th. The Commercialization Prize recognizes and rewards the ReMAP team with the most accelerate their innovation in 2016-17.ReMAP O8 is a collaboration of industry experts from McGill University, Ciena, CMC Microsystems, and Celestica. The team will leverage additional funding to develop novel optical packaging solutions to reduce the size and cost of high-speed modulators.
