ReMAP Announces Commercialization Prize Winners at 2018 AGM

Commercialization Prize 2018

Toronto, Canada, July 19, 2018 –  ReMAP is pleased to announce the 2018 $50K Commercialization Prize awarded to project group, ReMAP S4, at the Annual General Meeting held on July 18th. The award recognizes the project team with the most compelling business case to accelerate their innovation with an additional influx of commercialization funding.

ReMAP S4 is a collaboration between Concordia University, INTERNAT Energy Solutions, and Canadian Solar to develop smart windows. Semi-transparent photovoltaic (STPV) windows have great potential for integration in fenestration systems, adding the option of solar electricity production while still fulfilling daylighting needs. Trends in architecture already include  STPV in commercial and high-rise residential buildings. Where large glazed facades and lighting loads constitute a significant portion of the overall energy consumption, the integration of this technology is promising.

"Smart Cities are leveraging technology for more energy efficient solutions. The smart window that this team is developing will disrupt the current status quo that windows are passive components of a building, and make them active, energy efficient solar installations. Congratulations to the team, originated at Concordia University collaborating with supply chain partners such as INTERNAT Energy and Canadian Solar to create a Canadian product-to-market path." said Irene Sterian, President & CEO, ReMAP.

Three additional project groups were also recognized at the AGM. Honourable mention goes to ReMAP O7, ReMAP O10 and ReMAP O12 project groups.  These winners will receive a $5,000 business development award to showcase their products at customer meetings, conferences and tradeshows. Also awarded to each team, is tuition to attend Keiretsu Forum’s Academy Angel Investment Simulator (valued at $5,000). As these talented entrepreneurs approach the commercialization finish line, this boot camp will provide pitch coaching for positioning, investment-readiness and global syndication.

Winners:

ReMAP O7 is led by 7D Surgical in collaboration with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Celestica & Ryerson University. ReMAP O7 is advancing optical technologies for image-guided surgery. The integrated surgical lighting and 3D imaging system utilizes sensors, machine vision cameras and advanced computational algorithms to allow pinpoint surgical guidance during neurosurgery.

The ReMAP O10 project group between AOMS Technologies & Celestica is developing an end-to-end hardware-software platform for harsh environment sensing in industrial applications. These sensors are designed for distributed sensing of critical parameters such as pressure and temperature in harsh environments and hard-to-access locations where conventional electronic sensors fail.

FREDsense & Creative Coefficient are partners for ReMAP O12.  The project focuses on developing sensing tools for real-time water quality analysis.  Field Ready Electrochemical Detector (FRED), combines biology and engineering to detect chemicals in industrial water such as arsenic and other contaminants.

ReMAP congratulates all the winners for their outstanding performance in 2017-18.
