ReMAP Welcomes Its Latest Cohort

Shared Investment. Shared Success. ReMAP is pleased to welcome the next cohort of projects to its product enablement ecosystem. Through shared resources and knowledge, ReMAP supports innovations in Aerospace, Defence, ICT, Healthcare, Industrial and Renewable Energy. The latest Call for Proposals was open to the entire Canadian manufacturing sector.The newest cohort was selected from a wide variety of innovative projects that will be launched in November 2016.  The final selections from the Call for Proposals are:

  1. QPS Photronics, a Quebec SME, has joined Celestica and Ryerson University to commercialize optic fiber vibration sensors for the online monitoring of power transformers and electronic systems. The team will adapt existing optic fiber-based sensing with new long gauge distributed sensing to meet market demand of their solution.
  2. NUVU Cameras, a startup located in Quebec has developed a highly sensitive and accurate camera designed for medical applications such as cell or organism development, bioluminescence, chemiluminescence of proteins and DNA sequencing.  NUVU has joined research partner, Ecole Polytechnique to improve product quality by leveraging innovative new manufacturing processes.
  3. Montreal start-up Aeponyx will collaborate with IBM Bromont, to develop high throughput assembly lines for photonic packaging to lower the cost and scalability of photonic devices. The team will focus on developing a strain relief structure for automated fiber attach to enhance reliability and enable solder reflow on photonic package interconnect.
  4. Northern Transformer, a Canadian SME proposes the commercialization of a next generation transformer for the renewable energy generation market (wind, solar, energy storage). In a collaboration with the Waterloo University, this transformer will leverage new materials and components to deliver the robustness and capability of power transformers while meeting the specific cost targets and performance needs of the renewable generation market.
  5. AOMS is an Ontario-based SME that has an end to end hardware-software platform using fiber optic sensors for harsh environments sensing.  They have identified an immediate market need for low pressure sensing in chemically harsh environments.  In collaboration with Celestica and McMillan McGee (MC2), AOMS will leverage their fiber optic sensor technology to develop a specialty pressure/temperature sensor product – creating a market niche where existing electronic sensors fail or lose performance.
  6. FIBOS is a Canadian technology company leading the innovation of optical sensing solutions including the development of Optical Gauge Sensors (OGS) and Optical Gauge Amplifiers (OGA) for harsh environments.  FIBOS, Ryerson University and Celestica aim to commercialize a competitively priced optical sensing platform capable of enabling customers to acquire knowledge in environments previously unreachable, such as oil and gas applications.
  7. FREDsense is a Calgary-based biosensor company commercializing fast, portable and cost effective kits for the chemical analysis market. Their objective is to take chemical analysis from a centralized lab which is slow and expensive to the source of contamination, providing actionable information in minutes instead of days.  FREDsense will collaborate with Creative Coefficient to provide electronics manufacturing support for the water sensing units.  This will enable Beta product for use by water utility providers to quickly understand the concentration of Arsenic in their water in a reliable way.

The finalists will help guide the commercial and technical direction of ReMAP.  Selected projects were chosen because of their growth potential, product relevance and benefit to Canada.ReMAP is in the business of technology.
